Carlo Ancelotti, the winningest coach in the UEFA Champions League, could be set to stay at Real Madrid.
“Real have begun discussions with Ancelotti to extend his contract,” Spanish outlet Relevo reported on Monday (Aug. 18).
Ancelotti is one of the world’s greatest coaches. He led Real Madrid to the UEFA Champions League title in the 2022/23 season, the fourth Champions League title of his career. Ancelotti has already lifted the Champions League trophy with AC Milan in 2002/03, AC Milan in 2006/07, and Real in 2013/14, making him the first and only coach to win the Champions League four times.레모나토토
Ancelotti is currently in charge of Real, whose contract with the club expires in the summer of 2024. This is his second stint in charge of Real. He was in charge of the club from 2013 to 2015, after which he went on to manage Bayern Munich and Everton before returning to the club to make a successful comeback.
Initially, the most likely destination for Ancelotti was the Brazilian national team. Tite stepped down after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and Fernando Diniz is now the acting head coach. “Ancelotti is one of the leading candidates,” said the Brazilian Football Confederation. The Brazilian national team is still waiting to name a permanent coach.
Ancelotti also spoke about the possibility of taking the job, saying in an interview, “I know that the Brazilian Football Association wants me. This fact makes me happy. But I have to respect my contract with Real and fulfill it. I love Real,” he said, adding that he will remain with the team until the end of his contract.
This raises the possibility of Ancelotti signing a new contract with Real, which would increase the competition between the Brazilian national team and Real for his services.
“The bond between president Florentino Perez and Ancelotti is unique and long-lasting. Real fans will be forever grateful to Ancelotti and he was always there when Real needed help. Pérez still believes he needs Ancelotti. Real have begun to consider renewing the contract of Ancelotti, who is under contract until June next year.”
“The president is seriously considering offering him a contract extension so that he can continue to lead his young and talented team and believes that Ancelotti’s experience is necessary for the team’s success. The extension could be for two years and we are considering whether to formalize the offer. The Brazilian national team have also been persistent in their pursuit of him and have made it clear that they intend to sign him next June, but he has not yet made a decision,” said the source, explaining that he could choose between the Brazilian national team and staying at Real.
The media outlet initially reported that Xabi Alonso could be a possible successor, but emphasized that Real want to keep Ancelotti for now to develop their players. L’Equipe said, “Real have Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, Hodriguez and Endrick. If Ancelotti stays, it will be easier for everyone to grow,” said Lelevo, assessing why Real want to keep him.
With Real wanting to keep him despite strong suitors from the Brazilian national team, it will be interesting to see if Ancelotti will continue to challenge for European honors with Real’s youngsters over the next two years.
