It’s been a torturous day for Thomas Tuchel. It’s been a long day of criticism and laughable antics for the German coach, even after a convincing 4-0 win over rivals Borussia Dortmund.
Tuchel’s Bayern Munich cruised to a 4-0 victory over Dortmund in the 10th round of the 2023/24 Bundesliga at the Zignale Iduna Park in Dortmund, Germany, on Friday (Aug. 5), with Harry Kane scoring a hat-trick in the “der Klassiker”. With the three points, Munich remained in second place with eight wins, two draws, and no defeats, two points behind leader Leverkusen (28).레모나토토 도메인
It was a far cry from the previous match, a DFB-Pokal second-round tie against Saarbrücken. In the midst of a hat-trick explosion from Jupo Kane, an overworked Kim Min-jae also played the full game and helped secure a clean sheet.
Dortmund lined up in a 4-2-3-1, with Gregor Kovacs in goal and Julian Luegersson, Niko Schlottback, Mats Hummels, and Marius Wolf in defense. Salih Wazuzan and Marcel Zabiczer formed the midfield, with Marco Reus, Julian Brandt, and Donier Malone in the second line. Niklas Fühlkrug started up front.
Munich fielded their best lineup. They went with a 4-2-3-1, with Manuel Neuer in goal and Alfonso Davies, Kim Min-Jae, Dayo Upamecano, and Nusair Mazrouei in the defense. Leon Goretzka and Konrad Reimer were in the back three, with Kingsley Coman, Jamal Moussaouiallah, and Leroy Sane supporting Kane in the back two.
It was a one-sided game in Munich’s favor. Goal scoring was the difference. Dortmund had a 15-14 advantage in shots, but only one on target to Munich’s eight. The Bavarians capitalized on their chances to take a convincing victory over their rivals.
It started well. Kim Min-jae’s center-back partner Upamecano opened the scoring in the fourth minute. He headed home Sane’s cross from a corner kick. Munich doubled their lead in the ninth minute through Kane. Sane’s low cross was met by Kane, who slotted home to make it 2-0.
With the score 2-0 at halftime, Munich had a lot to smile about as Kane completed his hat trick. Kane made it 3-0 in the 27th minute of the second half, slotting home a cross from substitute Kingsley Coman. Kane completed his hat trick in stoppage time when he neatly converted a one-on-one opportunity.
Despite the perfect result, Tuchel was not smiling. As criticism of his performance continued, he became uncomfortable and interrupted the interview. Recently, German media outlets have been rocked by reports that Tuchel has lost the trust of the squad. Tuchel was under tremendous pressure as reports surfaced that several players were growing frustrated under him.
According to Sky Sports Germany, Tuchel stormed out of an interview earlier in the day after losing his temper over a question from Munich legend Lothar Matthäus. Asked about the win over Dortmund after the previous loss to Saarbrücken, Tuchel sarcastically said, “I’m sure Mateus or Dietmar Hamann know why.”
When Mateusz said, “I don’t think we played well again today,” Tuchel quipped, “Then it’s Christmas Eve.” “If you disagree with me, you don’t have to express it that way. I’m just saying what I see and accept. Munich continues to be in a bad place,” to which Tuchel replied, “I don’t want to participate in this discussion at all. I’m leaving. Mateusz, you have a job, you can say whatever you want. Nobody is angry. We won 4-0, so it’s time to do a 180 and enjoy it,” slamming the microphone down and walking away.
As Tuchel was about to leave the office, a funny thing happened: the team bus was about to leave without him. According to Germany’s Bild, “The Munich bus left without Tuchel.” “The bus left while Tuchel was being interviewed. The players were on the bus, which rolled to the exit of the stadium. They were moving until they realized that the most important and decisive person, Thomas Tuchel, was missing.”
Luckily, Tuchel was able to get on the bus. When the team bus realized Tuchel was missing, it reportedly turned around and drove back to the parking lot, picking up Tuchel, who had just walked out of an interview.
